The awkward incident occurred after Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land was the winner of Best Picture, before backstage officials from accountancy firm Price Waterhouse Cooper stormed the stage to announce Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight had actually won the gong.
It caused a wave of hilarious shocked reactions, with Ryan Gosling even sharing a snigger, but the 28-year-old La La Land actress wasn’t so relaxed about the incident.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Emma described the debacle as, ‘One of the most horrible moments of my life. Wow! It was just so horrible.’
As Jordan Horowitz was halfway through his acceptance speech for La La Land, the director was interrupted to be told that Moonlight was indeed the winning picture and Beatty had been given the wrong envelope in error.
The Moonlight cast and production team then made their way to the stage to accept their Academy Award.
