Barry Allen is in trouble! And not just with other speedsters. Over the course of the last year, The Flash movie has been the source of headaches for its directors leaving it at a place where it has no sense of momentum or direction. As we speak, The Flash is just trying to keep a filmmaker employed. Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn are to replace the guys behind the camera but even that does not feel like it is enough.
However, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to shine brightly for the film and DC should allow themselves to be led out of the gutters. The studio should hire Patty Jenkins – of Wonder Woman – to get the project back on track.
Without a doubt, either Robert Zemeckis or Matthew Vaughn could make a good flash movie. They have after all proven more than once that they have exactly what it takes. They both have an established legacy that promises to live even after they stop making movies. However, they are both at a disadvantage because they are new in the DC realm.
There is no way to know whether they will work well with DC and Warner Bros. Ms. Jenkins, on the other hand, has delved into the DC world and has a developed fan base and critics worldwide who are equally awed by her work.
Patty Jenkins has not just proven that she knows the nooks and crannies of an addictive DC film. She had also established her ability to play nice with the DC insiders, working within the system that was set by Warner Bros. She works with whoever she must to get her movie right. The Debut of Wonder Woman a few days ago has given DC unprecedented success.
There is, however, no way to know how Justice League and Aquaman will perform. So that they don’t just swing for the fences with The Flash, they should simply get a director on base who is a guaranteed success.
Not surprisingly, the idea raises the question; why not get Zack Snyder of Batman V Superman or David Ayer of Suicide Squad if all that DC needs is an insider? First, getting Zack Snyder again behind the camera is nearly as daunting as getting the Flash back on track without Ms. Jenkins. The man deserves time to mourn his daughter. Ayer, on the other hand, is already involved with the Gotham City Sirens, he cannot stretch himself thinner than that. The prospect of Wonder Woman 2 is still in the far future so Patty Jenkins has a lot of time to flash The Flash out of the woods.
In addition to that, the two have proven themselves polarizing and more so when compared to Ms. Jenkins. Their films, in their nature and style, have not been able to match the broad appeal that she has achieved with Wonder Woman which makes her the strongest contender of the three. Of course, there is no guarantee for this to happen but it is, or rather, ought to be, something that the folks at DC take under advisement.
As more details regarding the project become available to us, we will bring them to you. For now, Barry Allen is set to premier properly when Justice League debuts on the 17th of November this year.
